Family of Peg Dolls – Stars, Scarves and Bow Ties

I am always excited when I get a new commission for a family of peg dolls. Usually it means a whole lot of bright and colourful clothing to work with. This group was certainly no exception!

All of the outfits for this family were full of the patterned details that I love to work with.

Here is the first of the couples within the group:

This amazing silk scarf was a dream to recreate! I loved the challenge of working the patterns across the folds and drapes in the material.

The second couple are just as bold and beautiful!

The lady has her sunglasses on her head and I loved her shooting star jersey!

And what about this shirt! Isn’t it amazing? I love recreating check shirts anyway, but the addition of the tiny music notes and cheeky lady sat io a guitar knocks this one out of the ball park!

The sweet children don’t disappoint either. The cool dude on the left has a funky rocket jumper, and a cape with his name on the back! The little baby is decorated in a blanket inspired by his big brothers’ space jumper!

This commission also includes two much-loved dogs. as both have passed away, I was asked to include wings on their backs in remembrance.

Personalised Peg Doll Set ~ Pretty Little Parents

I love creating peg doll sets that have a special meaning for the family. When my fellow creativepreneur and Instagram friend Gemma asked if I could create something special for her Mum’s birthday I was of course super excited!

Gemma runs the beautiful Etsy shop Little Wishing Well Company. She hand-makes the most beautiful wedding accessories, gifts and homewares with a rustic, vintage touch to them. Her thoughtful creations really are a must-see.

I loved recreating Mum’s beautiful rose-printed top and bright, chunky necklace. Will I ever tire of drawing roses? I think not! I love them, and recreating patterned clothes with them.

Mum’s cardigan had a subtle textured, self-pattern which I gently added using a tiny amount of acrylic paint and the tiniest paint brush in my collection! I always choose the most suitable material for the project and the effect, pattern or texture I’m trying to recreate. Although I work proudly and predominantly with high grade artists pencils to colour my dolls, sometimes a spot of paint or watercolour is called for to enhance the design and give the best overall finish.

There were a couple of requests to personalise Gemma’s Dad’s doll. Firstly, he needed his watch on his wrist. In all the reference photos that she had sent me, his shirt appeared tucked in, and sleeves rolled up. In addition, she asked if I could create a chain necklace above a little cheeky vest, just visible under his shirt neckline.

Wedding Peg Doll Personalised Gift

I’m sure you all know by now I love commissions that involves creating a wedding peg doll or two!

So when my business friend Stacey, the amazing clay artist behind Stacey’s World, got in touch to ask if I could make her a special wedding gift she got a big thumbs up from me. Her friends had recently got married, enjoying a dream destination wedding. With this in mind I knew this would be a fun wedding peg doll set to work on!

It was particularly refreshing to work on a totally different style of groom outfit to normal. A light and fresh linen waistcoat and trousers and white shirt pairing was different to the usual navy or grey suits I work on.

The bride was photographed wearing a really light and elegant dress. Its’ simplicity was perfect for all that sunshine and heat I bet! She also had a gorgeous bunch of colourful gerberas. Such happy and bright flowers!

There were lots of lovely details that really helped me to personalise her wedding peg doll. The bride wore quite distinctive glasses, which always helps. In addition to this, she had a beautiful sparkly tiara which was lovely to recreate. She also was wearing pearl and crystal necklace, and a pearl bracelet and earrings set. Any opportunity to bust out my specialised pearl and crystal finishes is a great one in my books!

It really was a lovely commission to work on. It was refreshing to create the peg dolls as a gift AFTER the wedding day and to be able to work from such lovely, happy photos!

Personalised Peg Dolls ~ Bold and Beautiful

When my lovely Instagram and creativepreneur friend Sharon asked if I could create her a set of personalised peg dolls I jumped at the chance!

Tucked away on the beautiful coast high up in Scotland, Sharon creates beautiful needle-felted art and pin badges as Ria Melin. You can see her gorgeous work in her Etsy shop here. As always, it was an honour to be asked to make something for a fellow creative soul.

The set I created for her consists of herself and her partner, her parents and her gorgeous Shitzu Zelda.

One of Sharon’s most infamous products are her Highland Cow pins, and I paid a little tribute to this with a teeny little cow on her cardigan.

Sharon sent pictures of her favourite pink top and orange cardigan for herself, but left it up to me to decide what to create on her mum’s doll. The reference photos for her Mum’s clothing included stripes and pink. So I combined the two and opted for pink stripes, tying the two ladies together nicely and reflecting the bond and love they share. personalised peg dolls, peg doll, peg dolls, customised, personalised gift, unique gift

All in all, the family’s clothes were quite plain pattern-wise. Nevertheless the bright, vivid colours worked really well despite this. As a result, this demonstrates that despite my mantra when you order being “patterns work best”, the peg dolls look lovely what ever your style.

The bold blue and pink colours repeated through the dolls helped tie them together as a set.

It’s no secret that I’m a cat person, and at any time my clothing consists of approximately 85% cat hair. However, Zelda is the dog that could convert me to being a dog person! She is THE CUTEST little dog I have ever seen. Look at her adorable little face! Such a sweetheart. It was a pleasure to create her little wooden personalised peg doll twin!

Seeing Double ~ Peg Doll Twinsies

Please do not adjust your sets, peg doll lovers….you are NOT seeing double!

This was a beautiful request for two identical, matching peg doll couples. They were a special birthday request for a lovely couple who currently live at opposite ends of the country. Mum wanted two identical sets, so that both her son and his girlfriend each now has a set to keep at with them at home. Such a thoughtful gift, and a very romantic idea!

There were lots of lovely details on this set. The lady peg doll had a pretty black dress embroidered with hundreds of tiny flowers. They took forever to draw and colour by hand, especially having to do them twice over! But it was very much worth it. I really loved her specs too, there was such a fab shape to the frames! Glasses are always tricky, managing to burn each side equally is always a challenge. This time of course that challenge was doubled and I had 4 lenses to get right.

The guy peg doll also had some lovely touches! As a big Swansea City Football supporter, a match day programme was popped in his back pocket. A subtle nod to his home team.

His denim shirt also was lovely to work on, with unusual floral motifs on the front and back.
