Boho Wedding Cake Topper: From Across the Miles

I love receiving emails asking me if it would be possible to make a Peg Doll Wedding Cake topper. It is truly lovely to be involved in someones special day in a little way.

So imagine my delight when an email from the other side of the world asked if I could do just that! a  wedding cake topper set of five peg dolls, for a beautiful family in Hong Kong who would be returning to Wales for their beautiful boho Wedding, was required.

My lovely customer Asher was thrilled with the finished results. In fact, she sent me these pictures of the cake toppers on their gorgeous cake. My goodness it makes my mouth water just looking at that. I am indeed a bit of a buttercream fan!!

Of course, Asher sent me lots and lots of photos to work from giving me a good idea of how they would look on the day. There was a really beautiful boho feel to everything. Dreamy lace dresses and loose, cottage style flowers the order of the day. Her amazing dress was an absolute joy to recreate. The bodice had a contrasting lace pattern to the arms, which was such a fun detail to work on. The satin sash called for my very special pearlescent finish, which is reserved for very special occasions!

The groom was to wear a smart navy suit. This is paired with a lovely shot of colour in the form of his yellow tie! The bouquet is a posy of gorgeous wild flowers, hand tied with lace.

The three beautiful little bridesmaids played an important part in the cake topper arrangement. Simple, elegant matching dresses, and beautiful rustic bouquets for the eldest two girls. This elegant simplicity is exactly what is key to the boho wedding style.

They look so pretty together.  Just lovely  – or “hyfred” as we say here in Wales.

Finally, if you’re a Bride to Be, and haven’t said “yes to the dress,” you must check out the styles from Bridal Fashion Week. Brides.Com have comprehensive coverage of their favourites for 2018. It will be interesting to see what filters through for real world brides. Certainly, there’s a few interesting looks! High-necked styles, pale blue and BLACK are being tipped as gown colours we could be seeing at Weddings near us soon! So I wonder if I’ll have any requests for peg doll wedding cake toppers in black wedding dresses as a result?!  We will see, I’m sure!

The Wedding Cake Topper that Sparked Creativity

Inspiration is a wonderful thing and can be drawn from many places. I love reading about who or what inspires artists in their work, and to see how that transpires into the result. I especially enjoy people using materials and resources in unexpected ways, rather than as they were intended. Wedding cake topper included!

Little did I know that when my lovely customer Gita asked me to make her Wedding Cake Topper, the little wooden bride and groom would not stop at just adorning the top of their cake!

Gita was lovely to work with from start to finish. She provided me with plenty of photos of all the details of their special day to help me create their bespoke peg dolls.

Her beautifully beaded dress had the most gorgeous scooped cowl back that was such a lovely detail to recreate.

Gita originally planned an elegant braided up-do, finished with a beautiful crystal-encrusted comb and pearl hair piece. It was the perfect excuse for me to use my specialised finishes!

The bridal bouquet included crystals, pearls and delicate feathers. It was so pretty, and a total delight to recreate.

The Groom didn’t come without his own special details;  peaked lapels and oxblood brogues were also on the creative to-do list.

After their celebration, Gita pointed me towards a tweet from their venue, showing their wedding cake topper in situ.

But the lovely surprises didn’t stop there.  Next, Gita emailed me to say that she’d cleverly made her own Thank You cards featuring their wooden peg dolls! I was so excited when she sent me photos of her creativity. So, peg dolls are for life, not just for wedding cakes!

A big thank you to Gita for kindly allowing me to share her pictures. It was really lovely to see my peg dolls being used in such a different and creative way.

 Of course, with removable cake rods, our peg dolls are designed to be perfect for displaying in your home for years to come, but I hope that Gita has inspired other couples to think outside the box for uses of their peg dolls after their big day.

Peg Dolls – Handmade Wedding Cake Topper

My lovely customer Lorna got in touch to ask if I could make a peg doll wedding cake topper of her and her fiancé Stephen.

Firstly, we discussed what she would like  and I sent her my guide to photos that I need to work from. Once I’d received all the photos from Lorna, I could begin to draw and then pyrograph her very special commission.

Lots of lovely details were required to personalise their peg dolls. These included the beautiful sapphire jewellery she would be wearing on her special day.

I loved creating the representation of her special bouquet. Rather than traditional wedding flowers, it was made of a mixture of shimmering pearl and sparkling crystal brooches.

Mr T and I wish Lorna and Stephen a lifetime of happiness, love and laughter together, and hope that our special wedding topper will be a treasured memory of their big day.

Wedding Cake Toppers

Calling all Brides-to-be!

Our order books are open for Peg doll Wedding Cake Topper commissions for 2016!

If you are getting married this year, why not consider having yourselves caricatured into little wooden dolls? They sit snuggly on your cake for your big day, but can then be displayed and treasured for years to come?

Each peg doll Wedding Cake Topper is provided with rods to help secure them into your cake, as seen below.

These rods can then easily be removed after your big day, they simply pull out from the dolls. This allows you to sit your wedding cake topper on any shelf, table or flat surface where you would like to display them, just like our regular peg dolls.

These particular dolls were created for a beautiful wedding in November. The lovely bride Katie provided me with lots of photos to work from. These included details of the Bride and Groom’s outfits for the day, as well as her bouquet and hair trial.

Due to the work that goes in to each doll, and the number of requests on my order books, all custom orders can take four to six weeks to create. so please get in touch in plenty of time if you are thinking about having dolls made. This is even more important for a special ocassion.

Anything can go too – you don’t have to have a traditional bride and groom as your topper. I’ve previously posted a set of toppers I have made of a couple in their everyday clothes here.  I also have a very interesting commission that I’m soon to start work on which is far from traditional. But as the wedding is not until the Summer I can’t divulge any details yet!

Cake Topper Peg Dolls

Did you know our peg dolls also make the perfect wedding cake topper?

I was asked to make a set of peg dolls consisting of a couple and their much-loved dog. This  was a very special gift to a bride and groom from the Mother of the Bride. As the happy couple spend their time walking the pooch and building their dream home, comfy hoodies and jeans were the order of the day.

The little details, as always, were lovely to add to these peg dolls. I really enjoyed creating the plaited hair style on the bride. A little artistic licence allowed me to add a flower too! I loved the fact that I was told the groom wears shorts most of the year round. Reminds me of my own Mr T who never seems to feel the cold and is always in long shorts. Men eh?

My lovely customer confided that she hoped that they would use the peg dolls as their wedding cake topper. So imagine my delight when she sent me these pictures following the big day!

How sweet do they look on top of that beautiful naked wedding cake?

If you would like your peg dolls to be used as a cake topper,  let us know when you order. We will drill the dolls and provide you with removable wooden rods. These will secure your toppers into the cake, but are easily removed afterwards. Then your cake topper can sit on a shelf or table just like our regular peg dolls, allowing them to be treasured and enjoyed well beyond your special day.
