Starting with the three day festive fair at the beautiful national trust location of Dinefwr, LLandeilo. Allow carol singers, choirs and brass bands to provide the soundtrack to your day as you sip on a luxury hot chocolate or a glass of mulled wine against the backdrop of Dinefwr Park in all its winter glory. Then we will be attending the amazing craft fayre organised by one of my dearest friends! at Dwr y Felin comprehensive school, Neath on the 28th November. The Fayre is in its fifth year! And Last but not least we will be spending 2 days selling our unique Christmas gift ideas at the Etsy Made Local Winter Fair at the Pati Pavilion, Swansea, on the 30th November and 1st of December. ~Peg Dolls ~ An Extended Family!

You might remember this lovely pair of peg dolls I made a few years back if you have a great memory! If – like me – you can’t remember what day it is, here’s a link back to the post where I first shared them.

The peg dolls were a retirement gift from a daughter to her father to commemorate his career and all the admirable work he had done over those years.

Both her dad and her mum loved them, and it wasn’t too long until she got in touch asking if I could make all the grandchildren to add to the set. Of course!

Here they are, all six of them!

Four lovely girls in a mixture of pretty patterns. Florals and stripes, always a favourite of mine!

The grandchildren dolls were handed over to their Grandparents, and were very much loved immediately. So much so, that Granddad declared he needed dolls of his own children too, to complete the family.

My lovely customer got in touch to see if I could extend the family set again, this time with her and her brother and sister!

By now she knew my love of working with patterns and colour, and sent me pictures of outfits that didn’t disappoint!

I love layering up the colours and stripes that make up a checked pattern! It’s time consuming but fun!

I particularly enjoyed recreating the patterns in this scarf on this little lady peg doll. It was also fun adding the shading to get the “puffa” look to her body warmer.

I actually captured working on some of these details in a video, which you can see here. I’m working on building more videos of my work and processes, so keep an eye on my YouTube channel. I hope to gradually add lots more of my pyrography stages and colouring of my peg dolls.

My lovely customer kindly shared a picture of them all in their forever home! A peg doll family which has been extended and built up over the past couple of years. They look so lovely together and I’m sure they will be treasured by all the family for years to come!

Newsflash!

I am now fully booked for personalised peg doll commissions for this year! I will of course have my Christmas goodies available for purchase later this year as usual, but I am unable to take any more orders for personalised dolls for 2019.

However, I have already opened my order books for next year and invite you to get in touch if you’d like to book a slot for a personalised peg doll commission for 2020. Peg Dolls – A Happy Little Family

A request popped into my inbox last year asking if I could make a set of peg dolls as a wedding gift. Heck yes!

I was sent gorgeous pictures to work from of a beautiful family, including the furry four-legged members.

The adults had very different styles which was fun to recreate. One is wearing a beautiful dress, while the other has a far more casual look of jeans and a sports hoodie. I loved this contrast between the two dolls.

The lady in the dress certainly provided a few challenges! The dress is black, with quite intricate, delicate but really bright (almost neon) butterflies. We all know I’m allergic to black on peg dolls (!!) but this really was tricky. Finally, I decided that paint would be the best medium to create the right look; the opacity of the paint meant the colours are rich and bold against the black background.

The couple’s son is an avid Newcastle United fan, so I was asked about recreating their strip. It was challenging to get those minuscule badge details on the tiny 6cm tall doll, but I got there!

The little daughter clearly has a confident and individual sense of fashion, as little ones often do! I loved copying her outfit from her photographs. Her purplish leggings really are setting off her gorgeous top with the swallow motifs.

Obviously, the dog and cat are adorable too. It’s always a pleasure to add animals to family sets of peg dolls. They are such little characters!

They are such a colourful set altogether. I hope that they represent the vibrancy and fun that comes with family life for this gorgeous lot!

Wedding Cake Toppers – A Pretty Vintage Couple

Wedding Season is upon us again. And it’s safe to say I get booked up well in advance for my personalised Wedding Cake Toppers. I have three orders on my books for 2020 already!

Here is a lovely order from last year. I can safely share it with you now that the Bride and Groom’s day is over!

When Susie sent her pictures to work from, I was delighted to see all the little details I’d be adding. These really make it a truly personalised wedding cake topper!

I couldn’t wait for her slot to come around so that I could get to work on them. As always, I start by drawing out the designs on the dolls until I am happy. Next, I make them permanent by burning the lines into the wood with my pyrography iron.

Then, I can can get to the laborious but ever-so-rewarding work of adding the colour to bring them to life. My Bride and Groom wedding cake toppers use a variety of materials in addition to my usual coloured pencil. This could include paint, liquid pearls, fine glitter and metallic and pearlescent finishes.

She had a wonderful veil. Not all Brides chose to include them as they can obscure some of the dress details, so it was nice to be able to create my first one in a little while.

She is also wearing a beautiful, sparkling crystal vintage belt. I loved bringing this to life by getting my sparkles out! (That sounds like a terrible euphemism – sorry!!!)

Unfortunately my photos don’t do just how pretty that little dress and belt are, with it’s painted lace, and pearls created using my special mediums.

But luckily for you, I caught it on video 🙂

It’s deliberately out of focus at some points to demonstrate the light catching the sparkles. You can’t see this whilst it’s in focus! The video also shows the sheen I use to give the effect of a veil more closely.

The groom also has lots of attention to detail! Look at that tiny pocket watch on a chain.

The suit is a gorgeous navy, with a purple checked pattern woven through it. What an absolute treat for me to recreate! You know how much I love a pattern!! I think this dapper fellow is one of my favourite grooms that I have created to date.

Susie kindly sent me a couple of pictures of their wedding day and allowed me to share them with you. As always, it’s great to see my cake toppers out in “the wild”!
