Pregnancy Announcement Ideas – Peg Dolls

Just a quick scroll through Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest will show couples are looking for and coming up with more and more interesting pregnancy announcement ideas. I think my peg dolls, particularly the style of these I’m sharing with you today, could fit the bill. Read on to find out how.

Imagine my delight when a lovely regular customer asked if I could make a special, surprise gift for her brother and sister in law. They had just found out that they were expecting their first baby!

Her ideas combined with my artistic style of resulted in a sweet little pair of peg dolls to make this special moment in time for the parents to be.

One of the special requests was that her brother’s tshirt should have the Levi’s text replaced with “Dad”. Of course, I love adding special little touches like these for my customers to make their orders really personal.

She also wanted to somehow include the as-of-yet-unborn baby in the tummy, but without it getting gory! So I sent her a few sketches of my ideas and we both decided that a cute heart on the tummy was the best and loveliest way to achieve it.

This peg doll set was a gift for the parents to be, but they’d be perfect for pregnancy announcement ideas for your Facebook and Instagram! A little more creative than the usual scan shot too. You might add them as your profile photo, or get extra creative and make a little stop-motion animation with them. You could have a set made to give to your parents to let them know they’re going to be Grandparents! Additionally, gift some to your best friend at her baby shower.

Animal Lover Gifts (Cat and Chicken Lovers)!

It’s no secret that I’m a cat lover. I’m an animal lover in general, but cats are my true loves. You may have seen the evidence in this post previously. I’m an out and proud, bone-fide, card carrying member of the Crazy Cat Lady Club. I’ve always loved cats, but it was this little addition to our family that pushed me over the edge into that crazy “I just want to talk about cats all day” mentality. She came into my life when I really needed to have someone to love and care for. As a completely deaf kitten, she needed an indoor home, time, patience and love to train her in alternative ways. We were the perfect fit for each other. We needed each other.

We’re the apple of each others eyes! Of course I love our other two cats too, but Pearl is constantly by my side (or on my lap!). She does’t even let my husband so much as stroke her. She’s my girl. I hate leaving her, and if I’m not at home, she sits on my side of the bed until I come back – pining for me while I’m gone!

When we had her, the rescue shelter had already named her Pearl and it suited her perfectly. But we soon began calling her Pearl Bowie, due to her multicoloured eyes. I often sing “She’s got David Bowie Eyes,” to her to the tune of that Kim Carnes Bettie Davis Eyes song (wouldn’t you just love to be a fly on the way in our bonkers house?!). Mr T says it’s just as well she can’t hear me!

So imagine my reaction when I saw my IG friend Sharon of Daisy Lions was creating a “Bowie Cat” character! A Ziggy Stardust-inspired little white cat! I just had to have him when he was finished! A Bowie Cat for my own Bowie-eyed cat!

Pearl gave it a good inspection on arrival and gave it a massive paws-up and a purr of approval!

We both love it very much!

Being the good egg that she is, Sharon suggested a craft swap – so I created a personalised peg doll in return for the cat.

Sharon is an animal lover too. Her dog Daisy inspired the name of her business, and she spends her days dreaming up all sorts of cute and crazy animal characters that she brings to life through textiles and watercolour. Sharon described the clothes she’d love to see on her doll. However, I couldn’t resist adding a cheeky little extra character based on her beautiful little crazy chicks!

I loved the bright colours Sharon requested! So lovely to work with and really eye catching on the finished peg doll.

Instagram can be such a wonderful community, and it was a pleasure to create a personalised peg doll for someone who has become such a supportive and lovely friend over the past few years through this particular form of social media.

New Year – New Name!

Happy 2019 Peg Dolls fans!

We’re delighted to be back to work creating beautiful personalised peg dolls for you to treasure.

You may have noticed a few little changes around here! Our business is now called Doli Dwt. It’s a new name, but we promise the same lovely peg dolls, the same attention to detail and the same warm, friendly and personal service!

The name Pink Elephant Crafts served me well the past 15 years, whilst I dabbled in various arts and crafts. However, it was time to chose a name that fits with my peg dolls, whilst proudly reflecting our Welsh heritage.

I’d been mulling over (just in my head), about a re-brand to better represent what I do for about six months, when my mum serendipitously told me about a dream she had.

She dreamt that she visited our house one day, and lined up outside were life-sized versions of my peg dolls in all different costumes. Along side them was a sign saying “Ty Doli Bach”, which means “little doll house”.

This thought stuck with me and I played around with it in my head for a few days. I soon dropped the “house” in favour of “dwt” , which is Welsh slang for someone who is tiny or cute.

Little Doll….so perfect! Thank you Mum for the inspiration!

I also must take the time to thank you for a fantastic year in 2018. Each purchase; every like, comment or share on social media, has absolutely meant the world to Mr T and I. I love making my little peg dolls, and without you to make them for it would all be pretty pointless!

We had a brilliant Christmas market season – it was lovely to meet many of you in person across South Wales! It was also a thrill sending parcels to those of you (around the world) who bought items from our webshop too!

Our Nativity sets with the new addition of Kings, new Mr & Mrs Claus (pictured above) and of course those robin baubles, were extremely popular. Thank you for your amazing reaction to them all.

Personalised Peg Doll Family – H&N Part Two

Last week I shared a post about a set of peg dolls commissioned for a lovely couple, H and her husband, by their daughter in law. You can catch it here if you missed it! When H received her personalised peg doll set, she was so thrilled with them that she got in touch straight away to ask if I could also create her three sons to complete their family.

For once, I remembered to take some in-process photos so that I can share how each one is made with you. Hooray me!

I even filmed burning one of them from start to finish, in real time, if you’d like a peep into the work that goes into my peg dolls.

This is how the peg doll looks when he is ready for colouring:

And here’s the finished article after hours of colouring by hand. I loved recreating his floral tie.

H’s next son was to wear his favourite teams’ football kit. This is actually a remake of a peg doll I’ve made before, for H’s daughter in law. It’s always a lovely feeling to be asked to make a personalised peg doll a second time!

The final peg doll is proudly wearing his Navy uniform.

This was a lot of fun for me to recreate, and it’s the first Navy uniform I’ve been commissioned to make. Also, it gave me the opportunity to break out the gold paint which is reserved for the most special occasions!
