New Year – New Name!

Happy 2019 Peg Dolls fans!

We’re delighted to be back to work creating beautiful personalised peg dolls for you to treasure.

You may have noticed a few little changes around here! Our business is now called Doli Dwt. It’s a new name, but we promise the same lovely peg dolls, the same attention to detail and the same warm, friendly and personal service!

The name Pink Elephant Crafts served me well the past 15 years, whilst I dabbled in various arts and crafts. However, it was time to chose a name that fits with my peg dolls, whilst proudly reflecting our Welsh heritage.

I’d been mulling over (just in my head), about a re-brand to better represent what I do for about six months, when my mum serendipitously told me about a dream she had.

She dreamt that she visited our house one day, and lined up outside were life-sized versions of my peg dolls in all different costumes. Along side them was a sign saying “Ty Doli Bach”, which means “little doll house”.

This thought stuck with me and I played around with it in my head for a few days. I soon dropped the “house” in favour of “dwt” , which is Welsh slang for someone who is tiny or cute.

Little Doll….so perfect! Thank you Mum for the inspiration!

I also must take the time to thank you for a fantastic year in 2018. Each purchase; every like, comment or share on social media, has absolutely meant the world to Mr T and I. I love making my little peg dolls, and without you to make them for it would all be pretty pointless!

We had a brilliant Christmas market season – it was lovely to meet many of you in person across South Wales! It was also a thrill sending parcels to those of you (around the world) who bought items from our webshop too!

Our Nativity sets with the new addition of Kings, new Mr & Mrs Claus (pictured above) and of course those robin baubles, were extremely popular. Thank you for your amazing reaction to them all.

Happy New Year Peg Dolls Fans!

What a busy Christmas season we had with our little peg dolls! It sped by so quickly that I can hardly believe that 2017 is well underway already!

We had a great time at our fayres this year. As always it was so lovely to meet old and new customers face to face. Our Christmas peg dolls were a hit as always, but the show stopper was definitely the Santa’s Workshop that our dear and talented friend Dr Peter Edwards made for us to display our creations.peg doll peg dolls wooden doll hand made gift

An example of team work at its finest! Pete created the wooden structure whilst I had far too much fun decorating it when I should probably have been working on stock!

My pictures really don’t do it justice. I promise to get my DSLR out next year to give it the treatment it deserves!

I’m already back in the studio and working on my first commissions of the year. Our order books are full until February, but we are taking orders for March onwards, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Making our Peg Dolls

I know I talk a lot about how much love goes into each individual peg doll that I make (you can see for yourself in our gallery here)…. as a small business you have to be passionate about your craft – luckily it comes easily to us because we we love what we do!

Well this week I’m taking part in the “Meet the Maker week” on Instagram, and today’s challenge was “In Action”.

Following from my last post, it’s provided the opportunity to make a timelapse of how each peg doll is created. I did have to cut out some parts – even at x8 speed the video would have been super long otherwise! It’s just under 4 minutes long and that alone took some editing. Each peg doll takes hours, it’s not a process that can be sped up in real life. You can also view it over on our Facebook page. Instagram only allows minute-long videos, so it was a total headache whole lot of fun editing it down to that! *rolls eyes*. So if you’re short on time, you can see the short version of it on our Instagram account.

Either way, I’d love you to take a few minutes to watch it! Take a peep to witness the love that has gone into each peg doll, whether you already have one of my peg dolls or if you are considering ordering one. You’ll see that they truly are labours of love and that they are very special indeed!

Plus…it’s December!!!!! How in the world did that happen?! It’s come around so quickly. I’m itching to put the tree up, but we’re having a new sofa next week so it has to wait until after that. I’ll have to make do with our little wooden trees that we make to compliment our Christmas peg dolls until then!

We have one more Christmas fayre this coming Saturday, a huge commision to finish (our biggest to date), and then we can relax for a few days! But with our order books already full until Mid February, we can’t stop for long!

Peg Dolls at Christmas – Craft Fayre Season!

We kicked off our Christmas Season here at Peg Dolls HQ last night with Dwr-Y-Felin Christmas Fayre in Neath.

Like last year, it was a superbly organised festive evening, full of stalls from some of the most talented local makers and craftspeople. With over 40 hand picked stalls, this year was even better. It certainly felt an honour to be there with our peg dolls!

Things have been turning particularly festive here in the Welsh Valleys this week, when we woke early last Sunday to a light dusting of the white stuff! It certainly finally made creating Santa’s and elves feel “right” anyway! It’s hard to deny Christmas is on its way when it’s cold and frosty!

So it’s fitting that for this year, as well as traditional red and green, our peg dolls took on a frosty twist in their colour schemes. Inspired by retro Christmas cards and images pinned on our Christmas Mood Board Pinterest Board, I chose cool aqua tones with pops of coral.

Lots of people commented on the attention to detail on the peg dolls and were in disbelief that they are handmade!

Yes – I REALLY do draw out, then woodburn, then colour (yes colour, NOT paint! Sometimes I wish I did paint them as I’m sure it would be quicker, but I love the unique tactile finish my dolls have which would be lost to paint) each and every single doll myself, by hand. There is absolutely no mass-production or mechanical intervention. Each one takes hours of work. They truly are labours of love. When you hold one of my peg dolls, you have a little piece of my heart in your hands.

We also have brand New Christmas Countdown Characters too – if you haven’t spotted them on our Instagram or Facebook accounts you need to pop over and take a peep! These very special peg dolls are perfect for starting a brand new family tradition for advent. I’ll post them here soon I promise – you know I love to tease! Instagram and Facebook really are the best way to keep up to date with our newest peg doll creations.

Our 2nd Fayre is next week In the beautiful Maesteg Town Hall, and coincides with the annual Santa parade, Tree Switch on and fireworks display. It’s always a lovely, free and festive afternoon. Pop along and say hello!

Peg Doll Spoons – Christmas Editions!

It’s been a little while, but I’m back with some peg doll creations in time for Christmas!

It’s been a funny old year with ill health having a huge impact on my creativity, but the consensus is that it’s time to dust off the pyrography tools and coloured pencils and indulge in a little creative therapy. And what better timing than the impending festive season?!

Gently easing myself back into peg doll creations, I’ve started with a few peg doll spoon toppers. They were really popular last year, so I’ve given them a seasonal twist for 2016. Introducing the cutest Robin Redbreasts and juiciest Christmas Puds:

Isn’t this little Robin pretty sweet?! He’s got little rosy cheeks, and is quite happy to shake his little tail feathers when he comes bob-bob-bobbing along. Perfect for bird lovers or top chefs alike!

I love a good Christmas pudding, with its’ plump juicy fruit cheekily steeped in liqueur and a dollop of brandy sauce. Yum. Naughty but very nice. I’m a massive mince pie addict too, especially the flaky pastry varieties! What’s your “can’t-do-without” choice of Christmas baked goods? If you’re a star baker or a patron of puddings, this could be the gift for you.

The spoons are for decorative use only  – after all, they are too pretty to be used!
